I've tried a few different solutions for uploading large
amounts of
mail to GMail, but none worked particularly well. In the
end, I had to
completely rewrite one to make it work.

The new software works very well. I used it to upload over
6,000
emails to Google, with almost no errors. It does nearly
everything you
would expect: query for the correct smtp servers, retry on
message
failures, reset connections when they go bad, use proper
delays so as
not to overload google servers, etc.

If there's enough interest, I'll release the software as a
Windows .NET
application. Yes, that means it will not run on a Mac,
sorry.

Have any of you used returnpath?  I used it to change my address and it sent all my old mail to my new address.

What a great way for a company to compile hundreds of free,
real,
e-mail addresses!
