Can I just change my log-in name?

I'm getting tired of typing in
"painfullymidwestern" 10 times a day to
log into my gmail account.  I've got other gmail accounts
and can send
gmails from several shorter names.  The solution I would
like is just
changing by log-in name to something 6 characters, and
keeping
everything else the same.  Another solution would be to
forward all of
my gmail emails to another one of my gmail accounts with a
shorter
login name.  thanks.
