I've noticed a huge increase in the last 1-2 months as well.
Mostly
garbage spam... e-mail account detectors I suspect... I use
the
spamhaus rbl, but it is now only catching less than 5% of
the junk
coming in. I've got 8 other personally set filters catching
far more
than that (88% total - 13.7% is my biggest filter catch).
Problem is, even with the rbl and my personal filters, its
still only
catching very little (well, it feels like it anyway when I
still have
to sift through over 300 junk e-mails -- but in retrospect,
I suppose
catching 70% is pretty decent, considering):
E-mail received = 1149
RBL = 37
User Defined Filters = 731
Friends = 25
The rest were manually deleted...
Stats mentioned are from Thursday 12/21/2006 using
Mailwasher.
P.S. I can't wait 'till the ISPs start charging a penny per
e-mail for
anyone that sends more than 500/day...exceptions noted
(e.g.,
corporations). Even Google groups is overrun with spam. It's
amazing
that the likes of MS, Google, Yahoo! et. al. can't do
anything about
it...
