       I have heard the horror stories of people losing their gmail
accounts due to glitches, and I want to avoid that problem.  Is there
any way I can save my gmail inbox and sent box to my harddrive?

       I already have POP enabled on Thunderbird.  How do I download
the messages in my gmail account to Thunderbird or my harddrive.

    You have to enable POP on GMail also. ; If you don't have it enabled in your GMail settings, you won't be able to download anything.

Nick,

       My POP is enabled on gmail.  I am sure that I can download
selected messages.  However, I am trying to download all of my messages
at once, but I can't figure out how to do so.  I should mention that I
hardly ever use Thunderbird.

    Have you clicked the Get mail button in Firefox?&nbsp; Depending on how many messages you have, you will probably have to do it more than once. ; I have found that Thunderbird will download about 600 messages each time, so if you have more than that, you will need to click Get Mail, wait for the download to finish, then click it again until it doesn't download anything.&nbsp; And you are sure that you enabled POP for ALL messages?

    First off, follow the directions at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273 to the letter. If it still isn't working, try running the program Google points to at 
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=44769, as It may be able to tell you what you're doing incorrectly.

I download my mails for archive to 'Mail', the Mac mail
client. 
Everything goes fine.

Harold, could you rephrase what your issue is? I believe no
one
