A whitelist is a list of people that you want to receive
email from no
matter what. Therefore, regardless of the contents of the
email, it
will not get marked as spam.
Having the Gmail contact list be a "whitelist"
would ensure that email
from your contacts would get to your Inbox ---> I agree
that this
would be a good idea.
Some companies go a step further and limit all email to come
from the
whitelist. A new person wishing to send you an email must
first
respond to a question (usually involving a simple math
problem or
typing the text displayed in a picture (these are
collectively called
a captcha)) before being allowed to send the email. This
extra step
blocks spam because the automated spamming process would not
be able
to pass the captcha.
