I have a direct sales business and I want to attach my
business info
to my emails. So I have a link for my email address and a
link for my
website address. I also want to liven up my signature with
formatting.
However, all the signature feature will allow me to do is
insert text.
No links, no formatting just plain boring text. So I did
take a web
design class and briefly learned html formatting but not in
depth
enough to remember these formatting codes in order to try
them. Any
help here would be greatly appreciated!!

GMail only allows you to put plain/text in your signature.
If you
insist on a formatted signature, you'll have to use a mail
client
(software on your PC) and you'll lose some of your GMail
features.
That said... two things to note.
If you put the link address in your signature, many mail
programs, and
webmail pages, recognize the address, and will make a link
out of it
at your receivers side.
If you want to keep your webmail features, AND get HTML
signature
blocks... I believe there is a greasemonkey script that
allows you to
do that. You'll have to run Firefox (instead of another
browser), and
install greasemonkey (a plug-in) and that script. Search
this forum
and I think you'll find postings about it in the past.

You can use Google Doc, then copy and paste. Keep a document with just different signatures on.

Thank you all those are very helpful! I am pretty illiterate
with the
above mentioned programs so it seems I have some learning to
do.

Hi There,
Firefox is a browser just like Internet Explorer or Safari and it Highly customizable, you can install it from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/.
Greasemonkey is a small firefox "extension" that allows using third party scripts that can be used for changing the way you browse the net. This can be installed from
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/748/ and restart firefox.
Once installed, what you need to do is to install the appropriate script which would allow you to customize the web page in question. Since the one you would like to customize is Gmail and that too just the signature part I would suggest using the script available at
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3067. Not to worry the pre-installed GreaseMonkey will recognize the supported script.
Once installed, restart the browser and logon to you Gmail and in your setting you can find further options for your signature. The option allow HTML in signature is what you are looking for. Allow me to digress a bit here.
Google Docs is a web based "word processor" from google. The URL for the same is docs.google.com. Please open the same. Create a new document and create the signature you desire and save it. Once saved click the "Edit HTML" link near the tabs on top. Copy the code that you see there and come back to your Gmail account in GreaseMonkey Enabled Firefox.
Go back to your settings and enable "HTML in Signature" option and paste the HTML code that you have copied into the signature box.
I hope I have not confused you further ;).
Please try the same as mentioned above and I am sure you can achieve what you desire.
Regards, Vijay
