Problems with receiving pictures

my friend sends me pictures from aim.com to gmail and it
will not let
me view the pictures. does anyone know how to view the
pictures?

Ryan,

when the email was sent the outline of the picture is shown.
There is
a symbol in the upper left hand corner and it looks like a
page of
paper cut in half.

That's an indication of a broken link.  It's likely they are
locally
hosting the pictures, and you're being sent a link to a page
you can't
visit, as opposed to actually being in the e-mail. 
Right-click on the
box and you should be able to select properties or view
link, and see
where it's pointing.

i read
gmail disables java. how can i turn it on?
