I am constantly getting spam into my inbox. The really
annoying crap is
coming from BB&T, some sort of stock market reports and
repetitive
loan requests. Why, when I report them as spam or create
filters, do
they still keep coming through?
I would be most grateful if someone has a solution.
Cheers

Because it takes a while for the spam filter to learn new things. Just be patient. Keep marking them as spam, and GMail will learn that it is spam and stop letting it through.

Thanks for the quick reply, Nick.
I hear what you say and I have been marking them as spam for
as long
as I have been using Google (2 maybe 3 years!). But these
particular
'spammers' are getting just worse. I must get about 10 from
BB&T a day
(and I would say that has been going on for at least 6
months) and the
same number in stock alerts which come in in all shapes and
sizes with
no indication as to where they are from - here is an
example

Well if they are always sent by the same domain, you could
create a
filter that searches for from:domain and deletes them.
However, keep
in mind that this method will not improve your accounts spam
filter
since you are not teaching it anything new.

If it always has the same sender name, create a filter that
sees the
sender name and deletes.

Just came back to report my progress with this problem and
saw your
message!
> If it always has the same sender name, create a filter
that sees the sender name and deletes.<
If you had checked my previous messages you will have seen
that I had
been doing that since the middle of last year! I continued
to add
these sender names to my filters but it never made any
difference to
these particular spammers - they still kept coming in!
*** HOWEVER *** I persevered with reporting them as spam
as
recommended by Nick Chirchirillo (and I did this over a
period of
several months by the way!), they are now gradually
disapearing. So
with patience, it does work.
So thanks Nick - my faith in gmail has been restored.
