Hi,,, Nick ...

Same here, but it is a matter of preference, not to mention
that most
of organizations now days are using it " The Dot
"
So you may say it the Pros approach! or a touch of Prestige

But as I said it is subject to your first choice. (any one
choice

Clarification please

Let us say
our friend John Smith received an invitation -
and signed
up for a Gmail account Johnsmithgmail.com (and lucky him -
he got
it!)
Now in the other side of the world or maybe next door to him
there are
other John Smiths and they want to register for the same
Gmail user
login account! And found out it is not available.

Can any one sign up for a John.Smithgmail.com account?

Also smithjohngmail.com is taken by one of the JSs

for fraud (with the money in it) and what did you lose?

one, and if both are preserved then consider yourself lucky

No, no one will be able to sign up for it.

Say you sign up for user.namegmail.com">user.namegmail.com (with a dot),

Mail sent to user.namegmail will be sent to you
Mail sent to usernamegmail.com"> usernamegmail.com will be sent to you
You can log in as user.namegmail.com">user.namegmail.com
You can NOT log in as usernamegmail.com">usernamegmail.com
No one else can sign up for any other email address with "username" and any combination of dots.

This should be able to explain it as well.
Why am I receiving someone else's email?
