Hi all,
I want to export my GMail contacts to Thunderbird. However,
there is a
problem with the csv I get when I use GMail's export
function: one
contact uses multiple lines, and Thunderbird does not
understand that
format. That's logical: a csv has normal one record one each
line, and
not multiple lines per record.
So, my question is: how can I import the contacts in
Thunderbird?
(PS Outlook does not understand it either)

Are you exporting as Outlook CSV or GMail CSV?

It sounds like you might be using GMail CSV. Try using
Outlook CSV as
that should be a standard format any program can accept.

Well, that's the problem: Also Outlook CSV does not work.
And as the
file has multiple lines per record, Thunderbird and Outlook
cannot
import them.

Well, I just looked again into the downloaded Outlook CSV
file, and I
see the problem: The multiple lines are caused by fields
with more
lines (like address). However, the field starts and ends
with ' " ',
so Thunderbird and Outlook should understand it. However,
they do not
seem to understand the new line belongs to the field, but
they assume
a new record starts.
Can someone tell me how to deal with this?

Manually join the records, or submit a bug report at the
Firefox
Bugzilla to get it fixed for Firefox.

Open it in a decent editor and delete the hard newline.
