How can I seeing which emails I have not yet replied to?

I love lots of things about Gmail, but the one thing I
absolutely
require is to be able to easily see which emails I've
replied to. For
the major webmail provides, I can look at my inbox and
easily see
which emails I've replied-- and therefore, which emails
still need
attention.

In Gmail, however, I have no idea whether or not I had the
"last word"
in a conversation or not. I have to actually click on a
conversation
to open it to see whether or not I have attended to it or
not.

Is there any way I could modify Gmail somehow to allow me to
see a
"replied-to" flag? Or somehow see which ones I
have NOT yet replied
to?

It's such a simple need, but I'm shocked that I can't seem
to figure
out a way to do it with Gmail's web interface. Please,
pleae help

When in inbox, or list, view, the field to the left is the
list of
people who have sent mail in that particular thread. If
there is only
one name, you haven't replied. If it has your name, or
"me" in that
list; you have replied. If you're referring to ongoing
threads where
you've gone back and forth, then yes, you'll have to open it
to see
who the last sender was, unless you archive ones you've sent
then
it'll only be in inbox when THEY have responded, so you know
you
weren't the last one.
