That's a thread from this forum about a Firefox extension
that offers
a keyboard shortcut to Mark as Read, as well as custom
keyboard
shortcuts and others.  Perhaps that will get you what you
want till
Google adds it.

BTW... the only way to make sure Google hears your
suggestion is to
post it to them directly through Help/Contact Us.
