| Pathetic mails in Spam/Am I being spied
on. |

Hi,
I have been ignoring Spam mails, until recently, I received
one in my
Inbox. The content of the mails are obnoxious, including a
link to
YouTube.
Yet these mails have a Warning, possibly from Gmail itself:
"This mail
may not have been sent by the user that claims to
be..." I think its
the Phishing Alert. I have never received such mails until
last week.
But the recent onslaught of this kind of mails, has made me
Paranoid
enough to feel that someone may be using my ID to spy on me.
Of
course, Gmail has the "mark as unread" for the
mails in the Inbox,
making it more difficult for a general user to find out
whether
someone may be "watching".
How could I possibly find out and verify that my account
hasn't been
infiltrated...?
Would it be safe to just keep changing passwords? Is there
any way for
another user for the same ID to be notified of a changed
password/ be
able to find out the new password?
Thanks in advance.

If you suspect your account might be compromised, then
changing your
password, and your password recovery e-mail/question should
secure you
again.
I wouldn't suspect it based on spam received. What GMail is
saying
about those messages is that they have a from address that
does NOT
match with the server who actually sent them, and it looks
like
they'll try to make you give up personal information when
you go to
that site. This warning should only appear for the messages
in your
spam folder, since GMail suspects it's not legitimate.
There can be no other user with the same ID as you, so the
last
question is moot.

Thanks Zack! That's put my fears away..
Though there's still a wonder in my head. What if there is a
person
who has hacked into an account, and uses the same without
the
knowledge of the owner, and, he gets notified of a change of
password
every time the owner does change the password. Now this'd be
a worst
case scenario. Then how would the owner find out about his
compromised
account?

If you're changing your password from within the account,
there will
be no notification sent out, so if you were in that
scenario, they
wouldn't know you changed the password, except that they
couldn't get
in once you changed it, and if they TRY to change it from
outside the
account, that's when you'd get notified about the attempt.
That's why
change the secondary e-mail or at least the Q&A for
recovery.
