This has been discussed in the past, but basically Gmail adds two headers with email addresses to keep spam filters from tossing your message and the "on behalf of" problem comes from Outlook not handling it in a good way.

As an addition. If you own a domain, and register to use
Google Apps
for your Domain, they don't include the Sender field in the
Header,
which is the source of your problem.
Also... if you use POP and SMTP they don't add it (I
believe, no
personal experience), so that gets by it, but as Ryan
pointed out,
runs you into the possibility of getting stopped by spam
filters who
see the message literally coming from "xyz.com"
but SAYS it's coming
from "abc.com". This is a common tactic of
spammers, so many spam
filters are automatically categorizing them because of that.
The
"Sender" field basically states, they person
really is in "xyz.com" so
allow them to send, but then it sets their from as
"abc.com". Mail
clients are not supposed to react to the Sender field, but
MS chose to
co-opt it for their own uses, hence the "on behalf
of".
Alternately, You can use your own SMTP server, so the source
really is
"abc.com", this is where owning the DNS comes in,
and allows you to
get it taken care of.

I think that NICE wants to block gmail users from adding
"mail.abc.com" to their accounts. I'm not sure
how to prevent this,
except to confront employees about not doing this.

That should actually be easy. Set the mail server for
mail.abc.com to
reject all messages from GMail that represent the initial
authorization request. Then new users would not be able to
add their
abc.com address to their GMail, cause they'd never get the
initial
confirmation e-mail. Doesn't do anything about the user who
already
have, but a company warning, combined with a statement of
corporate
policy that's against it, should be all they need. If
corporate
policy requires that you originate all mail from your
domain
internally, then doing so externally represents a breach of
contract,
and likely be cause for termination (YMMV, consult a lawyer
before
acting based on my opinions).
