| New login problem |
  United States |
2007-10-05 02:05:03 |
Over the last few days - and only since Google changed the
system - I
keep getting the following message:
"Your client has sent a bad or malformed request"
as the first page
after I log in. All I have to do is hit the "back"
button and there I
am, into my email.
I can also just refresh and I'm into my email.
This has only been going on for the last 3 days but it is
annoying.
I have not changed anything in my system and everything has
been
working fine up until the change in logging in.
Using the best web browser of course - Firefox.
Anyone else having this problem over the last few days?

Not recently, but I've had that problem in the past...
clearing the
cache worked for me. Have you tried that? (always a good
idea with a
web app like this to clear cache at the first sign of
trouble).

For the most part, each users' display is the same, but we
know that
GMail typically rolls out new features to groups of users at
a time
(the joys of being a Beta tester), so it's likely they could
have
changed tigeride's system but you and I have failed to see
that
change; and may never (another joy of Beta testing).

Zack,
It might just be the rumored new Gmail interface... May be
we can now
get to see how it looks like.
Tigeride,
If it's OK with you, could you please post a screenshot,
after you
mask the messages and email addresses.

Yes please! I would love to see a screen shot! You can also just go into a different folder that has no messages so you don't have to mask them.

Well, until a few days ago, when my log in screen opened -
and since I
had checked to be remembered - my username and password were
present
in their respective boxes.
A few days ago, rather than being "present" the
user/pwd boxes were
empty. Typing in the first letter of my username caused a
drop-down
box to appear with my username showing. Clicking on that
then placed
my username in its respective box and the password ******'s
appeared
below.
I then click on log in and get the Error Code 400 "Bad
Request - Your
client has issued a malformed or illegal request"
instead of opening
my inbox.
If I then click on the back button - or just hit refresh -
my inbox
opens.
As I say, this "new" feature of not showing my
username and pwd
automatically, but requiring me to type in my username or
clicking on
the dropdown box version of my username, after typing in the
first
letter, only started in the last week.
I gather it is supposed to be some sort of "new"
security feature, but
as far as I'm concerned it is a failed implementation.
Everything was
working fine the way it has been for the last year. It
wasn't
broke...no need to fix it!

Yes, thanks, I cleared the cache the very first time I
logged in and
received the Bad Request message, but I still receive that
message
everytime I log in, which means at least once a day.

Not really a new interface, just one aspect as far as the
login boxes
as I note in my other reply.

The population of the login boxes when the screen loads is a
feature
of your browser, not GMail, or anything else Google can
effect.
Usually the box remains empty and has the drop down effect
is IE's
response to having more than one value it thinks can fill
that field.
You need to see what other values it has stored so you can
clear them
out.
