Help. I just started my first G-Mail account. I have no
problems
accessing it from a variety of computers where I have tried
so far
except for 1 computer.

It is an older Celeron (possibly Compaq Presario - but I
don't know
for sure.... - it's at home right now....and I certainly
wouldn't be
able to write a GMail e-mail !!!).

It was a reliable computer used in a small office, which we
outgrew,
and ended up upgrading...... It was a shame to discard it,
so we had
it wiped and cleaned up.

It is running Windows 2k. It passes a Virus Scan cleanly.

EVERY time I get into GMail, I see the word Loading in the
Left hand
side of the screen, and then the computer simply shuts off
as if all
power was cut. The LED's are off. It will NOT even
re-start. I
actually have to wait a while, let it rest, diddle with the
power
cords.....

It is the same whether it is plugged in to the wall directly
or into
the Power bar.

I am not sure if the system has some sort of a circuit
breaker in it
that once tripped needs a period of time to reset before it
wil lallow
power to flow again.

The computer is stable in other regards, will run IE or
Office.

I downloaded AdAware to see if there was some Spyware that
might be
causing a problem that my AntiVirus is missing, and there
were a
number of minor things which I got rid of, but same
problem.

Any ideas why my computer seems to be allergic to GMail
??!!

Tks,

My laptop does that on occasion, but it's because it's overheated.  Too many processes running at the same time. ; This... could be a reason.  Perhaps someone more experienced in just what kind of processes Gmail is using up on your computer could elaborate more on this possibility.  Do you at least get to the option of using HTML as the interface?

Hi Eric,

Tks for your response....

I don't think Gmail is that heavy a resource hog....

I have never seen the HTML option, on any computer where I
have tried
GMail....

On other computers, I see the Loading word in black font on
left upper
corner, followed by the word LOADING in RED in the right
hand
corner.....then my InBasket appears.....

On the problem computer, it really seems like the power
simply
stops......Poof !

you said nothing complete the computer, such as,
whats the ram, the hard drive size etc.
a pc with a small hd and ram can take windows 2k but so much
random
memory would be used that other processes which would seem
insignificant, can be halted. i had an older 1.5 gig with
tiny ram
that would get so overloaded just doing a few things that at
times I
had to simply cut power to shut it off as there wasn't
enough memory
available to do the shut down process.
a trip to a repair shop with the thing might be in order
and someone
with knowledge can look it over to find out why it simply
cuts off
like that. perhaps a memory card upgrade would be the thing,
which can
be done simply enough.
