Thread: attachments won't open

attachments won't open

I am so frustrated with the new gmail interface - and with
no one to
contact

I do not know what is happening with attachments, but some
do not open
or download. The little box comes up and files go flying in
the
animation, but nothing happens. This holds true with many
word files
that are sent to me - (sometimes the sender can send the
exact same
file from another computer and it will open) and with my
adsense
reports (which I have not seen in 5 weeks as they do not
open and the
adsense FAQ's do not answer this either).

I've cleaned my cache (for lack of anything better to do)
have checked
my firewalls and virus protection... Any other
suggestions?

Google sure isn't what it was.

Are you able to download the files from another computer?
You could
also try using a different browser, such as Firefox if
you're using
IE. If you try those two things, you'll be able to tell if
the problem
is with your computer or browser or if the problem lies at
Google's
end.

What was your result from following the troubleshooter
here:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/static.
py?page=troubleshooter.cs&problem=bugflow&selected=b
ugflow_receive24_receive30

There's a bug report specific to that issue if you follow
all the
steps and still have the problem.

Re: attachments won't open

Ryan and Zach - Thank you for responding
I followed all the steps on th referral link (had actually
done it
before - but did it again) and could not find contact info
for a
report when completed...

I do not know how much of a test this is - but I do not have
another
computer and live in the country - I did stop at the library
and
accessed mail from there - could not access these
attachments BUT
could also not access any attachments that I can still get
at home
(assuming their security is set higher than mine?)

I am an editor - Two authors I have no problem with.
Beginning with
the change in GMail interface, I began to receive some from
one that I
could not open. Now, it is 2 clients that I am having
problems with
and two that I do not. All 4 are using Word 2003. One
client can
re-open, re-save, re-send and I am then able to acess it.
On all 4,
there are attachments that I can open and/or save. Once I
cannot open
it tho - there seems to be no way that I can access it
after. One
magazine article has gone back and forth several times as we
tried
various fixes - I still have not seen it and the deadline is
Friday.

I say 'access' - the attachments will not open, nor will
they save..

This may be TMI - but I am not sure what is relevant here
and what
isn't. Thank you for your help.

You haven't said what browser you are using. I'm using the
latest
Firefox version, Vista, no problems with the new Gmail so
far.

What happened when you clicked the "Older Version"
link... were those
same attachments on the same messages still unable to open.
My
suspicion would be that they don't, and the problem occured
same time
as new version, but unrelated.

I had a similar problem, it seemed the files were
downloading but I
couldn't locate them on my pc..so, I downloaded Firefox and
was able
to set it to a place I could find easily without think, my
desktop. it
does that for all files till I change my mind..have you
looked in all
possible locations on your computer, and used the start
program search
feature?

I am having the same problem as fancy1... please let me know
if anyone
has any solutions! Some documents open, others don't. I
tried
opening them in another browser, and they work fine, it's
only in
gmail that these problems happen. It's very frustrating,
especially
when sometimes a document will download.. .and an hour
later, that
same document will not open.

Any solutions?

I've been having the same problem as fran over here... some
attachments open, some don't... then five hours later, the
ones that
did once opne, don't... it's a hassle

i downloaded firefox and that seems to have cleared up the
problem, so
it's not my computer, it's just using gmail in internet
explorer

i still want to fix the problem though because it's
annoying... if
anyone has any tips, that would be great.
