Importance can only be a useful label if the sender and
receiver would
agree that the matter is important. If they are not
familiar with
each other, and email system with an importance label
presents an
additional opportunity for abuse by spammers. If they are
and don't
think alike about what's important (a la molly57's post),
the receiver
is still needlessly "alerted" and inconvenienced.
The only useful
importance label would be within some sort of
"network" such as in a
business or other common enterprise.
