The old certificate problem, name mismatch - 1 new

The problem is simple, the certificate is issued for
pop.gmail.com but the
mailserver used is smtp.gmail.com. This is very annoying
when using for
example Thunderbird. As I read through some of the postings
I could not find
any good solution to this except turning off the feature of

Obviously google 'knows' the size of each message because it
keepts track of
the space we consume, so this should be possible-- Yahoo
mail allows sorting
