Not suer if it is still like this but previously you had to
have English US as
your language setting to be able to access some of the Gmail
features. If you
have chosen another language, switch to US. Also, make sure
your Gmail view is

You'd think it's easy to filter these to place in the spam
box; but no, it's
not - since Gmail filters ignore the square brackets. So, a
filter for "

well I'm 4 hours into the problem of getting my outlook

wont take it from outlook but I can log in all day long from
