Yes, it can be done. You can include any well-formed XML
inside
<merchant-private-data> element, a subelement of
<shopping-cart>
element. Here's an example of including comments for an
order and
delivery instructions:

<shopping-cart>
  ...
  <items>
    ...
  </items>
  <merchant-private-data>
    <gift-wrap>Yes</gift-wrap>
    <gift-message>Happy Birthday!</gift-message>
    <delivery-instructions>Leave the package at the
door if no one is
home.</delivery-instructions>
  </merchant-private-data>
</shopping-cart>

Only the post back, GC dosen't read the merchant data
section, its just
a pass through.
