Does anybody have an opinion about 1 and 1 web hosting. And
can a site
hosted by them be integrated with google checkout?

will tell you this much, their control panel is pathetically
slow and takes
a while to update anything and their customer support is
just as good as
their control panel.

We have tried for a week to integrate Google Checkout with
1and1
shared hosting and they are very un-cooperative. Thier
admin1and1.com
email address is the only way to find out any real details
about what
can and can't be done on thier servers and they always puch
you back
to support. Once you speak to support, they tend to waste a
couple of
hours of our time and then just tell you to send an email to
admin.
It's a hellacious cycle that will grind at the fibers of
your being.
So what do I think of them... I have no opinion:(

1and1 is third class company with very very poor customer
support. I
am still struglling to close my account with 1and1.
I wld suggest look something else.

I have had a terrible experience with 1and1 as well. From
pure customer
support point of view dreamhost, mediatemple and godaddy are
are pretty good
hosting companies.

I had similar issue a month ago. Apparently, it seems
1&1 cannot
support basic authentication using the merchantid/key from
google :
( However, making some tests, I was able to make it work
when I
created a user in 1&1 and pass it in the notification
(from my test
application, and not from google).

Then I found out from a Google post this company -
webhost4life.com.

I signed up for the $10/month plan and was able to make
notification
work. Email, trouble ticket and chat support were also
great!

The only problem I had is the downtime. Since signing up, I
had one 2
hour downtime and one 30 minute downtime that I know of.
Hopefully, I
don't experience this a lot in the next few months or else I
have to
scout for another hosting company that would give me good
uptime and
that would work with Google notification.
