Hybrid of Level 1 and Level 2 Integration?

Hi all,

I'd like to know if it's possible to do some sort of
"hybrid" or mix
of Level 1 and Level 2 Integration.  Is this possible?  Has
anyone
done this?  If so, any tips would be appreciated.

API as
needed.

I'd like to use the Level 1 Integration but also have a way
to have
Google Checkout perform CreditCard Validation/Authorization
for me -
this is where I assume that I'd have to use the XML API. 
Having the
ability to perform CreditCard/Authorization is a necessary
business
requirement for my app.

What would the API be for this?  It didn't jump out at me
when I
looked at the API.
