| Getting started - the most convoluted
process I can imagine! |

I am a developer for a merchant's site who wishes to start
small with
Google Checkout and only have the single item order
buttons.
The merchant has created an account, provided their tax ID
info,
gotten a Merchant ID, etc. etc.
I've been spending (wasting) a day going over the
information at the
"HTML API Developer's Guide" page and can't for
the life of me figure
out why, after following the instructions (which aren't too
clear in
the first place and reference way too many other sections to
be easy
enough to follow), I still can't get the sample "peanut
butter" order
code to work.
I know this is a bit of a rant, but I expected a much easier
process
coming from Google.
I'd appreciate some offers for help -
Thank you and regards.
Mark

One more thing...
Oh yeah, I'm working on their site in VS2005 - should I be
able to
launch the page with the Google code on it from my localhost
address
and have it work?

Okay, maybe all I needed was a good rant - I got the sandbox
version
going. However - and GOOGLE CHECKOUT TEAM TAKE NOTICE - I
see that I'm
not the only one to complain about the confusing
documentation here!
Okay - got that out of the way.
Now, of course I'm looking at integration into the site
proper for
production. As I said earlier, I'm developing the site in
VS2005 and,
of course, using such product display techniques as
populating a
GridView, DetailsView, etc. Since it's required to have a
button next
to each product on the page, I'm wondering how to go about
that, as
the products are displayed from within another control.
I'd appreciate some suggestions (and I promise I won't
complain
anymore).
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark,
Thank you very much for your feedback. I'll pass this along
to our
technical writer.
Thanks,
Jacob

Thanks for the feedback about the documentation, our tech
writer is
working on a new version right now, trying to make it more
clear and
reduce the number of sections.

WE DID
Thanks for helping us make the documentation better.

It's not required.
Depending on your application's design, you can have your
application
populate a shopping cart, then generate a button for the
whole
shopping cart when the user checks out.
Since you're using VS 2005, you should be able to leverage
the xml api
quite easily, using the excellent client library and sample
code from
my colleague Martin.

I hope this helps.
