Thread: Shipping Not Required

Shipping Not Required

My site (www.gympost.com) doesn't sell a physical product,
but rather
a service provided over the web. Therefore, all references
to
shipping throughout the checkout/payment process are neither
required
nor desired.

For example, the "ship to" address that appears on
Google Checkout
just before an order is placed really shouldn't be there
since nothing
will be shipped. Furthermore, the "Ship" button
is the Merchant
Center is an unnecessary step and I would like the button to
go
straight from "Ship" to "Archive"
without any intervention.

How do I tell Google to not mention shipping at all during
my user
experience or the user experiences of my clients? I would
like to
turn off shipping altogether.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Disabling shipping options is not available at this time.

Please note that Google Checkout is primarily designed for
physical
goods, so it's not optimized for digital delivery though it
can be
used for selling digital goods.

Thanks,
Jacob

Thanks, Jacob. Please consider this a feature request then.
 It would
be nice to have a radio button/checkbox toggle switch under
Settings
that allows you to turn on/off shipping. There are quite a
few
merchants offering intangible services rather than tangible
goods that
would benefit from this feature (i.e. software/document
download
merchants, internet services merchants, etc.) because they
simply have
no physical product to ship.

Thanks,
Ryan

Jacob,

I am already collecting shipping data and therefore -- this
is only
confusing the customer and adding to CS.

Is there any word on if this feature having an on/off switch
yet?

Hi Matt,

Just a word of caution .. if you ask for zip code from your
buyer for
shipping calculation, that is against google's policy
(http:
//checkout.google.com/seller/policies.html)

Hi Robin,
I don't think it is necessarily against googles policy to
ask for zip code
for shipping calculation. According to google you can ask
for it when it is
absolutely necessary. And I would assume that shipping falls
into this
category. I think what they give (item availability in
geographic location)
is just an example to determine the neccesity of collecting
that
information.

Hi Kobena,

You can ask it to check the availability of an item. I just
mentioned it
as we were told so during getting our cart certified (our
certified cart
is not live yet).

This makes no sense. How the heck could you calculate
postage costs without
the zip code, unless the zip code is contained in google's
database already
for instant checkout customers?
