I have a customer that was planning on using Paypal Standard
(IPN) for
their checkout and is now considering Google Checkout. I'm
using
cubecart and I was wondering if Google Checkout will work
with the
site with a digital certificate. When you use PAYPAL
Standard, you
juset send your transaction details over and then send you
an "Instant
Payment Notification" (IPN) that lets you know if the
transaction was
approved.
Does Google Checkout have such an option, or will I need to
setup a
certificate for this customer?
Thanks for any input.
Steve

Hi Steve,
With Google Checkout, merchants must send the whole shopping
cart
information (items in the cart and shipping & tax) to
the checkout
server. Then, the buyer will be asked to login and complete
the
purchase using the buyer's credit card information entered
in their
Google Checkout buyer account.
I hope this answers your question; please let me know
otherwise.
Thanks,
Jacob

So, then, If I don't have an SSL site, it shouldn't matter,
right?
I'll send the checkout info and the SSL at google should be
able to
complete the transaction without any security risk for my
customer.
Is that correct? that is how the paypal IPN works. I hate
to keep
referring to them, but that is the only merchant I've used
that didn't
require me purchasing a certificate on my end and
establishing an SSL
session before I processed with the merchant.

Hi Steve,
To clarify, SSL certificate is not required if you're
implementing
Level 1 integration (posting shopping carts to Google
Checkout) only.
However, you must have an SSL certificate installed on your
server if
you're planning to implement Level 2 integration (Order
Processing
API, Notification API) as well.
Please check here for the differences between Level 1 and
Level 2
integrations: http://code.google.com/api
s/checkout/developer/index.html#checkout_integration_options
Thanks,
Jacob
