Hi everyone,
I sent a letter to Google asking about this and they've
linked me
here, so here's my question:
I would like to use the Google Free WebSearch search bar, at
the top
of my website, but would prefer it in a slightly different
layout.
I've moved the Google logo to the right (and changed it to
the
"Powered by Google" image because I thought it
looked better). I've
added the words "Search:" to the left of the bar
and added a link to
http://www.g
oogle.com/services/free.html with the text "Search
powered
by Google Free Search" underneath it. I've also made
the search bar a
bit longer.
I've got a screenshot of it uploaded here:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/8/8/160104/goo
glesearchbar.jpg
Is this layout okay? I'm not sure if it's a breach of
Google's terms
and conditions? It still searches the same and I'm still
giving Google
credit for it all.
Please reply as soon as possible, as I am putting the site
online by
the 1st April. If Google does not approve of the layout and
the site
is already up, I'll gladly take the search bar away, or
change the
layout of the search bar back to the old layout.
Thanks,
Patrick

Are you using a Custom Search Engine for this, or are you using the Google Free WebSearch/SiteSearch product?
In either case, the only allowable branding options are the ones we provide for these particular products. I can reiterate Custom Search Engine';s branding terms later, if it turns out you're using CSEs. But as it seems you're using Google Free I will direct you here:

Thanks for the info.
So I can't change the Google logo? I can change it back if
needed.
Is the rest of my layout okay? I'm only using the Google
Free
WebSearch so far (I may use the CSE later on).
Thanks,
Patrick

Yes, as I understood the branding guidelines for Google Free Search, that wouldn';t be an acceptable implementation. Your best bet is to mimic the examples of acceptable implementations on the page I provided.
CSE's branding options are a little more flexible, but in either case you couldn';t use "Powered by Google," as that branding is reserved for sites using different Google services.
