Starting location

Can I set Google Earth to open at a particular location with
a
particular magnification, regardless of where it was the
last time I
used it?

"In your 'My Places' there is one placemark simple
called 'default'
there is view assocaited with that placemark that defines
the view that
Google Earth Starts with.

To change it, simple change the view to what ever you want
it be when
you start. Then right click on this 'default' placemark in
your list,
and select 'shapshot view'

Google Earth will then save the current view with that
placemark,
therefore next time you should have the exact same view. (if
while
using the program you want to return to your default view,
just right
click it and select 'fly to') "

I have the free version of Google Earth.  Does that make a
difference?
I can go to the default view by double clicking on it, but
my Google
Earth always starts up with a view of Earth, instead of the
default
location.  I even tried reinstalling the program, but it
still acts the
same way.

Yeah, I have the free version too.  I think you just need to
give it a
few seconds before it zooms in from the earth view to the
default view
(it can be a little laggy on startup)

I waited several minutes.  It just stays on the globe.

Is this before or after you've changed the default place to
zoom to?
