On tools menu;
select ruler
A ruler pop-up dialog box will appear, allowing you to
signify what
unit
or measure you want to use (miles, kilometers, feet, etc).
Move your mouse away from the dialog box and a small
box-like icon will
appear.
Left mouse click and a small dot will appear on your map,
move your mouse and a straight line appears, the units of
measure in
the dialog box will show your distance.
Does that work for you?
