I can't see why not. Google doesn't own the
gadgets. But you will have to provide the equivalent API that Google
provides if you expect all gadgets to work. Of course they may have
patented some of the technology in the API. IANAL, but I don't think that
they can restrict the use of the names of the methods in their API, only the
implementation of the methods, and then only if they have patents on the
implementations. Well, just to be sure, you might want to consult an
IP attorney.

Subject: Using Google Gadgets on a 3rd
Party Web site
Hi,
Just wanted to know if I can invite Google
Gadget developers to submit their gadgets as is for use on a commercial,
3rd party web site - meaning the gadget will be displayed on a commercial
web site?
After all, it is just pure XML, and contains nothing
proprietary to Google, right?
I didn't see any reason why one can't,
and couldn't find anything to that effect on the terms & conditions
page, but I maybe wrong - so thought of checking to see what you guys might
have to say about
that.
Thanks,
Ravi
