Here's the output from HTTP headers for the search (same
search term)
when it works.

http://gr
oups-beta.google.com/group/Google-Homepage-API/web/http-head
ers-output-for-working-ajax-search
or for when Google groups truncates my URL use this...
http://tinyurl.com/ykqx5c

I'm going to have a good old diff on these now!

Hey Bonstio,

So the key HTTP request we're looking for is:
http://www.google.com/uds/G
localSearch?callback=GlocalSearch.RawCompletion&context=
0&lstkp=0&rsz=small&hl=en&gss=.com&sig=9
146852230e46edae09c4aa26ec77819&q=test&sll=37.3861,-122.083&z=6&nogeocode=t&key=internal-ig-ajax
search&v=1.0

This request is missing from
http://grou
ps-beta.google.com/group/Google-Homepage-API/web/http-header
s-ouput-for-broken-ajax-search
which is very odd because this means your browser isn't
sending the
request even though javascript code is telling it to do so.
This is
really strange because even if your proxy server was
blocking all
requests, the browser should still see them. Can you double
check the
headers again? What's the verdict regarding the proxy
server? Can you
also find out if it's blocking any MIME types? Have you
tested this
with another workstation at work yet?

Try visiting the request URL above in a browser. You should
get back a
text/javascript response. This will confirm whether or not
your work
machine can successfully receive a response.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks,
Dann

Hi Dann,

According to our sys admin, no outbound MIME type are
blocked by our
proxy or firewall. If anything were blocked then email
alerts would be
sent. This seems to tally with Live HTTP headers output.

I have repeated the test from the same machine on the same
network and
have uploaded the results again here http://tinyurl.com/y8fhnw.
 I have
also tried the same test from two other colleagues' machines
within the
same network and the exactly same thing happens. And yet the
same
machine works OK on a different network. This seems to
contradict the
possibility that the javascript is failing to create and
send the
request in the first place. Very puzzling.

I have just retested in Opera 8 and IE6 and the same
symptoms persist!
Madness.

Visiting the request URL you cited yields the same sort of
behavior.
The pages sits there just "Loading..." so I
suspect the same is going
on. I can of course provide the HTTP headers for this too
but I didn't
think this was necessary... O what the hell I'll paste them
in here
too.

I'm beginning to want to give up on this... but we're not
defeated yet.
Do you think the gadget's author might be interested and
able to shed
any more light on this?

CHEERS

Here's the HTTP Live headers output produced by visiting the
missing
HTTP request in your above post:
