I'm just getting started with this myself, but there appear
to be two
ways to store persistent data.
1) Store data in cookie using normal javascript calls.
2) Create user preference of datatype="hidden"
in gadget's xml file,
force module to be inlined, and use prefs.set to define the
value.
Preferences are stored on Google's server, so that means
the user can
log in to his/her homepage from another PC and the
preferences will be
there.
