Hello,
I have spent the last few days making a module that will
create a
tabbed layout for the google homepage. It is not finished
yet, but is
completely functional, I believe. It allows for unlimited
modules and
tabs. You can reorder the tabs, rename, and add module to
tabs quite
easily.

A few notes. The module places all modules into an
"All Modules" tab
when first installed. You can not have no tabs, you need at
least one.
As for assigning modules to tabs. The module views the
first tab
onload, and all new modules are added to the first tab. To
assign them
to another tab. Click "Show Setup". A 'T' is
added to the corner of
each module. Click that, and then click the tab you want it
to be
(re)assigned to. The module will disappear. Click the tab
again to
view that tab. When not in setup, it is one click to switch
between
tabs. Even in setup, if you didn't click a T, you still
can click
once, and it will view the tab. If you click a 'T' and
then don't want
to move it to a module, simply click "Hide
Setup" and it will go back
to normal mode. I am going to add a little box that will
say all of
what I did above as the user uses the module.

Please test out the module. It is not finished, not ready
for
submission. It has no screenshots, nor am I too happy with
the looks
of some of the things.

If you have an image that would work well instead of the Ts,
send it to
me.

Feedback welcome!

Very cool! You're my hero!

It's working very well so far!

Suggestions:
- Rename "Setup" to "Edit", like
other modules.
- If you can hide the Tabs module completely that would be
bomb! (Move
color-settings to the Setup section.) Look into how other
modules do
this?
- FWIW, my vote is for removing custom color settings and
just using
Google defaults.

Maybe experiment with making the buttons look more like a
module-header
bar? I'd work on some mockups if I had time today, but
I'm swamped.

Can the tabs be moved to the top of the window, centered
just right of
"Add content"? That would save a little
vertical space. Not sure how
that will affect compatibility with other modules.

Thanks for working on this!

Ok, this is the third time writing this message, I keep
clicking
cancel, instead of post.

First off, thank you for your feedback. I am planning on
moving the
color options up to the header and letting the user choose
via a
javascript popup instead of hex. Also, I am working on a
way to reduce
load time by loading only the modules on the first tab and
then load
the rest after. Then at least you can see the main ones
quickly.

Hello,

I like it so far. One thing though, your hidden code to
ping
www.myfreecounter.net is a bit annoying. Would you mind
turning it off
in future versions? I realize that it doesn't track
personal info, but
it is a bit creepy to me.

I put that code in there to see how many people are using
the module.
MyFreeCounter is owned and run by me. I could make it so
that it would
load an image and then my server catches that request and
counts it as
a hit, but I figured I'd be forward about it.

Sorry, I don't quite understand. What code? You can move
modules from
one tab to another, see this page:
