Job description: 
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
FUNCTION: Software Configuration Management (SCM) Manager


Job Overview:
Software Configuration Manager will report to the Manager of
QA Testing
Services Department and will work closely with Development,
System
Operations and Quality Assurance Analysts providing
configuration and
release management support. The individual will be
responsible for
management and preservation of all versions of software and
artifacts
required to produce software for all versions of Company
products that are
either in production or under development. Configuration
Manager will be
responsible for automating the build process and delivering
periodic builds
for development and testing while supporting development and
test engineers
on the use of configuration management tools and processes.


The individual will be enforcing the software development
process in areas
involving storage and versioning of software, merging code
changes submitted
by developers and approved by IT Managers and maintaining
multiple version
trees for all supported environments. Periodic training of
development and
testing staff on using the chosen software configuration
management system
and developing common process for checking in source code
and doings builds.
Software Configuration Manager will be required to approve
and inspect all
code changes while maintaining integrity of the source
control system and
conforming to the software development process with complete
audit trail. 

Software Configuration Manager will have daily
responsibility to oversee and
coordinate the CM functions for all existing and new
software application
versions. This position requires collaborative work with
other functional
organizations to ensure proper support is provided. 

Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
*Establish Configuration Management methodology best
practices across IT
organization 
*Develop effective CM strategies and CM plans for existing
and new products 
*Monitoring the review of released engineering change data
and change
accounting activities to ensure adherence to configuration
management
procedures and policies 
*Document all build processes and actively update
Development, QA, and
System Operation teams when process changes are needed. 
*Implement strategies for building historic software builds
based on Source
Control. 
*Develop and maintain build strategy for new and legacy
products (build
engineering) 
*Establishing and tracking metrics during the Software
Configuration
Management Life Cycle that will help us meet and measure
aggressive quality
and productivity objectives 
*Provide release builds throughout the development
lifecycle. 
*Identify, recommend and implement standard Version Control
Tool 
*Establish Configuration Control Board and conduct meetings
for changes
approval. 
*Administer Source Control databases and recommend needed
version control
software changes. 
*Identify Change Control tool for changes tracking and
automatic approval
process. 
*Document all build processes and actively update
development, QA, and IT
Ops teams when process changes are needed. 
*Optimize file versioning techniques for developers and
product builds
including base lining, labeling, branching, and merging
strategies. 
*Troubleshoot release issues in the QA, Staging and
Production Environments.

*Manage CM policies and procedures, including change
requests 
*Repository Management across Offshore teams
*Security/Risk across Offshore teams
*Production Releases
*Branching


Skills/Knowledge:
*Strong technical foundation, a proven track record in
delivering high
quality work, software development experience 
*Experience with techniques in problem identification,
documentation,
resolution, and testing 
*Strong customer service skills 
*Strong problem solving and analytic skills 
*Must demonstrate the ability to complete deliverables by
the requested
deadlines 
*Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task in an fast paced
environment 
*Must exhibit exceptional communication skills (both written
and verbal) 
*Must exhibit and demonstrate the ability to work without
direct
guidance/supervision 
*Must work within and on occasion outside of normal business
hours 
*Must possess professional work ethic 
*At least 7 years software lifecycle experience 
*7 plus years working in a software development environment

*Experience with build technologies (ant, java, xml) min 5
years 
*Experience with source control applications (vss,
ClearCase) min 5 years 
*Experience with Unix/Windows, min 5 years 
*Experience implementing version control tools such as the
PVCS, Rational or
MKS tool sets 

Education/ Background:
*Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree in
Computer Science,
Management Information Systems, Business Administration or
related field or
equivalent work experience. Masters Degree preferred.
