text box has disappeared - 1 new

When I deleted the text in the left text box, the entire
text box disappeared
except for one horizontal dotted line. I tried to click on
it to add text
again, but cannot. Even when I change layout, the left
textbox is still just a
horizontal dotted line. This severely limits my options when
designing the
