Hi all,
I am very pleased to be able to announce a new connector for
the GSA.
The C-Search Domino Connector for Google is a secure, highly
flexible
system designed to connect your Notes environment with the
Google
Search Appliance. The system stands apart from other Notes
connectors
in a number of ways, so please read on if you are using or
planning to
use the GSA in a Notes/Domino environment.
Some of the key features are listed below:
- Support for full and selective content crawling (See
Highlighted
feature below). Choose exactly what documents and fields to
send to
the GSA for each type of database registered with the
system.
- Notes document transformation. Pre-build document titles
and
summaries at crawl time. This allows you to present a
consistent view
of all of your Notes content at the GSA regardless of the
structure of
your source Notes databases.
- Implements the GSA authorisation PDP for true respect for
document
level security. The connector respects database ACL and
document level
Readers/Authors fields, including support for application
Roles found
in the database ACL and security fields.
- Full administrative console and event logging for database
and
document management. Administration features include
pause/resume
processing and index roll-back by database.
- Document stub retention and update queues to provide a
real time
view of the GSA index from the Notes client.
- Make any Notes field available as a GSA metadata value.
- Register databases one by one, in bulk, or via the API.
- Launch results in the browser or the Notes client. Launch
attachments from Notes document results. Launch host Notes
documents
from attachments results.
- APIs for database registration, and crawler intervention
for
advanced document transformation requirements.
- Sample "template" profiles for many types of
common Notes databases
(Mail, Discussion, Document librarys, Domino.Doc, Teamroom,
etc). Use
these as provided or amend as required. Also build your own
profiles
for your own custom applications.
- Platform independent native Notes application. Runs on any
Domino
server R6 or later. Does not require Http server.
- Built in monitors for Mail systems and Domino Document
Manager
(formerly Domino.Doc).
- Multiple deployment modes.
- Based on existing IBM validated NSF crawler technology,
Carries the
"Ready for IBM Lotus Domino Software" mark. IBM
Advanced Business
Partner specialising in search technologies.
- Built by Notes developers with an in depth understanding
of the
design and structure of a Notes database.

Spotlight feature - Selective indexing.
-----------------------------------------------------
Scenario 1. Document life cycles. Imagine you have an
application
where your Notes documents pass through various stages; eg:
Draft,
Review, Published, and Expired, and you only wanted to show
"Published" documents to the GSA search users.
With selective
indexing, you can configure the Connector to do just this. A
document
will only be sent to the GSA once it becomes Published. In
addition,
once it expires the connector will recognize this and
automatically
remove the document from the GSA index.
Scenario 2. Document Management System. Imagine you have a
DMS
application and you only want to show current versions of
each
document to your search users. Simply tell the system to
index the
current versions of your documents and it will do just that.
As an
existing version is checked out, changed and then checked
back in as a
new version, the connector will uplift the new version to
the GSA and
then remove the old version since it will now fall outside
of your
selection criteria.
Scenario 3. Field level selection. At last you can not only
decide
which document sets to index, but you can also choose which
fields to
index. Anyone with Notes experience will know that there
are
invariably many fields on a Notes document that are there
only in
support of the application and add little or no value to
any
searchable index. The C-Search connector will automatically
generate
field lists from your source Notes forms to allow you to
choose
exactly which fields to send to the GSA. This allows you to
ensure
that the GSA only ever receives content which is of value to
it's
index.
Anyone considering using the GSA in a Notes/Domino
environment should
definitely take a look.
