Google helpers824- Pasting AdSense Code in the source of my site

Dear Google Helpers,

I am not able to paste the AdSense code in the source of my
page/blogspot.  Being a novice with respect to using
computers I
consulted a budding sftware professional. Even he could not
do it. His
contention was that nobody can add, change or delete any
HTML in the
source of the website; one can just view it. But in the help
pages of
Google.com/adsense you find step by step instructions on how
to paste
the code. I try to follow those instructions as meticulously
as I could
but to no avail. When I paste the code in the source I see
it appearing
there then I save it and try to see the result, that ads
should appear
on my site.  But nothing happens. I wonder where I was going
wrong. I
badly need the ads and the money.

I am a retired person aged 61. The url of my site is
<knowledge-one.blogspot.com>

Could anybody help me?
