No, You are in the right place! First off I think that a google group is not
the best idea for what you want to do. I would use a forum. You would have to get webhosting and a forum script like (phpbb). Or just look at http://www.proboards.com/. But google groups is ok for this purpose. I have
noticed that some of the checkboxes dont work in the new groups beta, but they do in the regular groups interface. Members must be members for awhile (usually a few weeks) for them to lose their "new member" status. I think
you checked the "new member" box for moderation and not the "not member" box.
