Ha, ha. I need to get out
more too.
It's funny. I never had audio dropout problems ever. But if I recall,
the dropouts were an OTA thing, and I live out in the boonies, and
don't get anything OTA. I've upgraded to 3 different 6.3x versions,
and have always dropped back to 3.1.5f due to the reboot thing. I just
looked at my log and I've had 33 reboots in the last 9-1/2 weeks at
random times throughout the day. A little less than once every 2
days. I don't actually watch much TV, so I've only had it reboot while
I was watching it twice in that time. But, I like my stuff to work.
All the time.
Soooooooooo, I'll probably switch back to 3.1.5f, AGAIN. And suffer
along with the slow responses, AGAIN.
I'm jealous about you fios guys. My cousin has it. He just got it for
the internet speed. He doesn't even have HiDef anything. It's likely
to be a while before they lay fiber out here, although there are a lot
of rich folks in this neighborhood so it may not be so long.
Are the S3 Tivos hacked/hackable?

I don't recall if the cause for the 6.3x reboots was ever narrowed
down to anything specific, but then again I'm getting old and senile
so what do I know? Personally, I only experienced one random reboot
between three HDTivos upgraded to 6.3x over a span of several months.
I upgraded them all to 6.3 right after it was released to get the
faster menus. I switched back to 3.1.5f after about a month due to
the audio dropouts that were driving me nuts.
I finally switched back over when 6.3d came out and it appeared that
most of the bugs had been worked out. Everything seemed to function
normally from that point on. I just sold off my last HDTivo
(unhacked, of course) a couple of weeks ago after jumping ship to FIOS
back in February so I can't comment on the latest software they just
released (6.3e). Now I'm playing with a S3 Tivo and an HTPC with five
ATSC tuners and I'm thinking about adding one or two more (tuners). I
have a 2nd S3 on the way courtesy of ebay (I really need to get out more).

Oh, definitely. I had most of the common/available hacks on both

I had this stuff on both systems. The only thing I didn't like about
3.1.5f is that it was sometimes very slow in responding to the remote
control. That sped up a bit in the 6.x series versions. But unless I
can solve the reboot issue, I'll probably revert back to 3.1.f
(for the
3rd time now).
I've not had the mysterious reboot thing since the initial 6
version, as I
recall it was something to do with a log file which got too big and
made
the box reboot. Perhaps CaptVideo would refresh our memories. I've
also
had most of the hacks on at one point or another, except mrv. I'm
taking
the plunge and getting the HR20 on Monday though, so won't know
about 6.3e
as I'm not letting my box upgrade. I hope to find extraction info from
the HR20 somewhere, to pull and archive shows is the only thing I
really
use the hacks for anyway.
