Probably the easiest path to
a fully hacked system is to buy "Instant Cake" and "PTVnet Utils"
disks. I think they are both $20 to download the images, and then you
burn them onto a CD. You still have to get in there and hack around,
but it's about the most automated path to a fully hacked system I know
of. You'll end up being able to download your content from your HD
Tivo to your computer hard drives.
You'll then need tytompeg from dealdatabase.com, by following this
link:

Good luck.

in 720p HD!
Currently, I have to digitize it to mpeg-2 720x480 anamorphic files
from the analog output and then transcode it over to the Apple TV,
which, of course, is 480p and not true HD.
Thanks.

Once your Tivo is hacked. I highly
recommend using TySuiteJ http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53760
to extract and convert to mpeg. The user interface is very good and you can use
tytompeg as an external converter if you want. It also has builtin transcoder
profiles for specific devices such an ipod, iphone, trio, DVD. The author may
also setup a profile for the AppleTV (or you can create your own). The
transcoder profiles use ffmpeg. This allows a single step extraction and
conversion to your desired format. The program is written in java so it will run
on platforms other than Win XP. All in all a very slick program and the
developer is actively adding features and fixing bugs. Good luck.

Instantcake is a good source for a backup image if you don't have one
handy. OTOH, the PTVnet utilities disk is a complete waste of money,
IMHO. The files are all free for download and the instructions to
install them are pretty simple and freely available. If you have a
Zipper CD configured all you need to do is run the initial Zipper
installation without any of the enhancements and you'll have all the
networking functions setup in just a few minutes for absolutely no cost.
