ffmpeg itself started out on linux. ffmpegx is really just a gui
wrapper for ffmpeg; one similar program that i use frequently on linux
is avidemux, though its more targeted at xvid and lavc than it is
ffmpeg. its pretty handy for transcoding mpeg4 .avi to dvd-legal mpeg2.

i dont think ffmpegx is open source (so "they" cant really port it),
and i've always thought it was kind of slimy since its all based on
open source stuff and the guy is asking for donations.
