Rose,
     You are awesome, I love you!! Who else would be up in the middle of the night with me? GInger is definitely in need & very deserving of a good home. She's in poor health & deteriorating every day -- horrible arthritis and has difficulty with pain medicine due to stomach problems. She loves all people and Elizabeth said she thinks Ginger would do well around kids. I just spoke with Elizabeth earlier tonight and she was telling me how worried she is about Ginger. She was getting ready to go bring her in the house as she does every evening.
     Elizabeth has made great strides in getting a lot of the dogs out of there in the last couple of weeks so the numbers are getting lower by the day. Tex has FINALLY gone to an awesome group along with Lyle & ;Emmy. Thank God! The ones that really need to be placed are all the rotties Ginger, Duchess, Julius (has issues with men), and then Swimmer, Teddy, Pumpkin, Houston, & Keystone. Some of these dogs have issues, but are definitely placeable. Elizabeth can tell you the ins & outs with each of them, she's been talking to them for a while now because that's all she's had to talk to during the day so she's VERY familiar with everything about them & their lives! I also can give you some info.
     For example, Swimmer a lab/shepherd mix is extremely dog aggressive, but he is very energetic, super smart, highly trainable, loves playing catch, and absolutely LOVES people & water. He will do anything to please you. He would make a wonderful search & rescue dog, but when evaluated for a police dog, drug dog type group he passed everything, but failed on the toy drive. He is not toy driven enough. His intelligence & his nose are amazing and this is spoken by someone who trained a search & rescue dog so I know what I'm talking about. Anyway, he would be perfect for a younger man or woman who does a lot of running and doesn't have any other animals. He hates to use the bathroom in his run so I think he would be very easy to housebreak if he isn't already. He was already neutered when he came in to Tylertown so I think he probably lived in a house before. So, if we could find a young college guy or gal who is very physically active, doesn't have any other animals, and is looking to adopt a dog, ;Swimmer would be a perfect fit!! That is an example of what I'm talking about as far as finding out about the dog and focusing on finding a home for one. When you know exactly what you are dealing with and what type of person you are looking for to adopt an animal, it makes it easier. Teddy would be the perfect apartment dog, but probably should be the only pet in the household. He gets along with some dogs & didn't do anything to some puppies or any of the cats or rabbits when he got loose in the house. He was just hanging out -- that's what he likes to do. He likes you to spend quiet time with him and he needs to live in a quiet home without much stimulation. He has some internal struggles and can be flaky at times. Just some examples.
     Hope, the shy hounds (who actually could be placed with someone with the right set up -- a nice fenced in yard), crazy Ray Houdini, Stu, Dallas, and Newman all need training before they can be placed, but if we could get it down to just these few left, it would be wonderful!!!!! Then maybe they could get the individual training & attention that they need.
     Rose, I love your idea about keeping track of who is helping each dog. Transport can be arranged so wherever anyone can find a home is okay. There is an adoption application on the petfinder site as well. Okay, I'm going to bed now. Thanks again everyone,

Julianne

Julianne,

  I think you hit the nail on the head here. "Remember that charity begins at home."  LOVE the idea of everyone "virtually" taking one dog and working on a home or rescue for him/her. The internet can help us work miracles for the Tylertown dogs. ;
 I am going to do this! ; Ginger the Rottie senior is my first project.  I have some great pics of her from January when she spent the night with me and Judy at our rental in Tylertown.  She'll be posted on our site www.omar.cc  real soon. ; Hopefully this will help. ; Elizabeth deserves all the help she can get "for the dogs!" LOL    I would LOVE to see Ginger get a forever home.  She's a GREAT dog!  Man, I sooo wish she could come here to me, but of course I have other dogs and cats that she would like to snack on.

  Is anyone else going to do this? ; Maybe we should keep track of who's helping which dog, so all the dogs get a fair shot?

PS  Does anyone know if Tylertown is in need of supply donations of any kind?
