Well said Lisa. It would be truly awesome if on the one year anniversary of Camp Katrina we could look at the facility and know that we didn't leave anyone behind, that we tried our hardest and we placed all the animals that could be placed. Many groups have not been able to do this, but I have no doubt in my mind that this group can. It can be done. We could look back at  the wonderful job that everyone did and we can have the memories that will never leave, but we could know that the HSLA volunteers accomplished a HUGE goal and did it with grace. We can hand the camp (now through lessons learned, a wonderful set-up) back to HSLA so they can decide what they want to do in the future and we could all have some closure and some peaceful nights rest. Okay, I know I'm dreaming, we could all go on to saving more animals and spending time with our own!! Elizabeth is going to give me a list of all of the dogs we need to focus on and they are on the webshots as well. This group accomplishes amazing things every day so let's try to do this one last difficult goal. Thanks

Maybe this will help.

Tammy and I have spent the last couple of weeks alternating between
transports and helping Elizabeth. There are adoptable dogs left in
Tylertown, albiet most of them have at least one issue. For the
biggest part, the main issue seems to be "does not get along well with
other dogs." It's a sad situation, but that DOES NOT make them
UNADOPTABLE, it just makes them harder to place which is the reason
they are still there. They haven't been forgotton or pushed aside. We
simply need to put our collective minds and resources together to make
a perfect match for these guys.

Elizabeth has done a phenominal job with the place. The kenneling may
look a little odd to some, I know it did to me when I first saw it
Upon further investigation of it, I found the runs to be some of the
most amazingingly well thought out bunch of mazes I have ever seen in
my life! The most inexperienced and/or lazy person in the world
could take care of these dogs with ease and without worry of any
"biting fears."

Elizabeth has worked her tail off in Tylertown for the last 10 months
while most of us have returned to life as we know it pre-Katrina. Just
over the last couple of months Elizabeth has transformed CK into a
haven for those dogs still there so that her successor will be able to
put forth a minimal effort into the actual care of the animals and
have plenty of time to PLAY with and ENJOY time with the few animals left.

All I can really say is that the best gift each of us could give
Elizabeth for her tireless dedication to the animals of Katrina would
be to find homes for the few that are left so that she can enjoy piece
of mind and some much needed R&R with her wonderful husband. I'm sure
the hard work of the well thought out kennels would be dust in the
wind and an answered prayer for Elizabeth if they were all empty by
the end of August!

Can we make this happen????? Can we all revert back to the early
post-Katrina days when egos and differences did not exist? Can we come
together one more time for the few animals left? Does anyone else
think that this would be the ultimate closure to the whole Katrina
fiasco??

Lets all jump off of our soapboxes and "Git 'er done!!!"

Lisa
