is there a way to emulate the DATEADD and DATESUB functions
that some 
other RDBMS's support.

It's in the manual: write a public static function in Java
and then
CERATE ALIAS.

I forgot to add "without writing/compiling Java",
because it´s meant to 
be used by general-common OpenOffice.org user's.

Triggers and stored java function can not be implemented in
OOo Base by 
a common user. So I was looking for an SQL work-around.
