Hello everyone,
Congratulations Lisa on how you are doing with your CI and how you are hearing. You sound well. When are you done with all of your studies and will graduate?
Lynn--Glad to hear that your surgery went well and I wish you all of the success with your activation.
Elyse--How are you and how is everyone? How is Julie doing these days? What grade is she in now?
Sorry, I have not been around for a while. I have had a lot of things going on with my son and some medical issues. He is doing well in spite of everything. It is just that things have gotten a little bit more challenging to deal with. He started 7th grade and my younger one is in the 4th grade. They are sure growing up fast.
Well good to hear how everyone is.
Take care,
Vicki

Hi Vicki,
Good to hear from you. The list has been so quiet lately. I am so glad to
have my CI surgery behind me. I am still feeling pretty good. I got up this
morning and took a shower-- did not get my head wet. The doctor says I can
wash my hair, but have to hold a dry towel over the incision area to keep
from getting it wet. Will need my husband's help for that. I am looking
forward to activation day!

I'm sorry to hear about your son's medical issues, but glad that he is doing
well. I hope everything will improve for him.

Lynn

Hello to everyone too!!

It sure was quiet this whole summer on the list:-( Guess we're ALL busy and/or enjoying the outdoors. Well... glad to be back in touch!
I liked your format Vicki so I'm borrowing it, ok?

Lisa- I said a BIG congratulations already but I'll say it again!! It really is awesome to hear your name in such loud noise. I'm thrilled you're doing SO well!!

Lynn- I didn't realize you HAD the surgery <whew&gt; I'm so glad it's over and it went well!! Now you'll have to keep us posted about the hook-up. I'm sorry you're deafer then you thought post implant but can't you use your HA?? Even if it's only one ear it's got to be better then nothing, right?

Vicki- I'm so sorry your son has medical issues. I hope he's going to be ok. Yes... they do grow up WAY too fast!

Which brings me to my update. Julie. Whew... she's in 11th grade geezzzzzzzzzzzz can anybody believe THAT??? If I make it through her next 2 years and we remain an intact family then I think we'll make it LOL. Does that give you all an answer??? Enjoy those 'little' kids cause she is getting her driver's permit this winter and is with kids that drive <BIG GULP> and she went out EVERY night this summer... and... and she's working. And... and... of course... MY daughter who works at an amusement park behind a concession stand get's a woman on HER LINE with a VEIL covering her mouth!!!!! LOLOL... thank God she laughed about it cause she didn't have a chance of 'hearing' that lady. Academically, Julie has to do good this year... she scored in the 80's in regents but her GPA was a 79. She's capable of an 89 if she gets her motivation back and stops with the having 'fun'... ugh! So... she'll get to go away for college if she gets that GPA up and she really needs to go away to college. So... hmmm... let me see... Jeffrey's going into 7th grade and he's fine Oh... reading about the 121 virtual channels and the new Advanced Bionics software. I thought Julie would be interested in it since she'd hear music better but I think I over did it with all this audiological mumbo jumbo... she just wants to be a teenager. Blechhh... well... when she is able to get it (and she is eligible) I'll call Pat Chute and we'll go for it. So... that's it. Sorry it's so long winded...

Elyse

Hi Elyse,
Yes, I'm glad to have the surgery over. It has been much easier than
expected. So far, I haven't needed the pain meds. I am just taking the
antibiotics to prevent infection and taking it easy.

I am wearing my left hearing aid, but with only one aid, sound in general is
about 50% less than before. It's better than nothing, but it has really been
a shock not having ANY hearing from the right ear. Today my yard man was
cutting the grass, and I was sitting on the porch reading. It was really
weird when he went over to my right side, it sounded like he was still on my
left. It gives me some understanding now of what it is like to have single
sided deafness.

As to Julie, it's hard to believe she's in the 11th grade already. Time sure
flies by. It's great that she has a job. I really enjoyed working during my
last two years of high school. I was in the coop program and worked in an
office half days my junior and senior years. I do hope Julie will pull her
grades up and be able to go off to college.

I'm surprised Julie isn't more interested in the new 121 processor. Don't
they call it the Harmony? I think I read where it has some new features like
the built-in t-coil as well as much better sound quality. I guess if she's
doing fine with what she has.... oh well. She's at the age where she's
having a good time and enjoying life. I know you will see that she gets the
new processor whenever it is available, and even though she's a teenager,
she will eventually appreciate all you do for her.

Lynn
