Ugh..... Ready to scream here... I just got my new Widex Inteos (which
seem ok but the settings are aweful and my next appt isn't until the
31st. The earmolds are causing pain so I am using my old ones from 4
years ago when I weighed 225 lbs more than I do now (obviously not a
good fit), and the FM system's goal was so that I could be cordless
without anything other than the boots on the aids, and the audiologist
ordered the Mylink which works off of a neckloop - a - NOT cordless -
b - uses T-coil which I am NOT ok with... I work as a photographer
and am around electromagnetic energy all the time, plus the cords -
well, I'm already corded enough...
Anyway, just venting...
One question I do have for any of the audiologists here, the
audiologist I'm working with insists that the aids are directional and
that there is no way to adjust the directionality of the aids. I find
this hard to believe given that the older version Senso Divas had ways
to adjust directionality. I don't think they are set for directional
mics at all at this time. Can anyone tell me for certain if there is
a way to adjust the directionality of the aids. I DO NOT want the aids
deciding for me what it is that I want to be hearing. (ie: I need to
hear my client standing 15 feet from me, not have the chatter in back
of me being amplified.
Thanks for listening as well as for any and all advice.

Hi Caroline,
I have a TelCom and a Smartlink that I purchased when I was wearing hearing
aids. I now have a cochlear implant and no longer need them. Let me know if
you are interested in purchasing them from me. They were bought in 2005 and
use channel no. 1.

Caroline,
I just looked at the software for the Inteo, and I cannot find a way to
manually over ride the automatic settings. I would verify this with the
audiologists and then exchange these for something that better meets your
needs.
The assumption that newer and more automatic is always better continues to
gnaw at me. We audiologists are apparently still dropping the ball when it
comes to doing feature-based needs assessments.
I suggest making a list of the environments you need to work or play in and
describe them in terms of number and position of people, other sounds, need
for wirelessness, etc. Then when a recommendation is made, ask the provider
to show you how that instrument will do each and every thing on your list.
In an effort to not waste YOUR time, email it to the audiologist ahead of
your first appointment and tell them to call or email you for an appointment
after they have found a solution set that meets all or whatever part of your
list you can live with.
I'll let you know when the audiology lisstervs start lighting up with the
complaints of all the "demanding" patients. I'll be the one smiling and
chuckling knowingly.
