A while back, I posted the saga of my problem with background noise
and asked advice.
I finally got my hearing test today: it came out to virtually normal
for my age (59).
Me: But what about the test for picking out words in a noisy
background? After all, that was my complaint.
Audiologist: No one does that but test labs.
ENT Doctor: Hmmmm. I'll order a copy of the tests you took in 2001
(also virtually normal) and compare them. Since you will be coming
back (for apnea) in two months, we'll discuss it then.
I did get a copy of the audiogram in case I decide to take matters
into my own hands. Hmmmmm.

Motorcycling Consumer News has a column written by a Doctor on
various medical matters. The current issue is on hearing. He ended up
getting his aids from hearingamerica.com . Sounds intriguing.
$995/side and you can change programs yourself from your PC. (No Mac,
darn). Either tweak the program the factory sets for you from your
audiograms or set for specific conditions. For example, if he is
going to be in a windy place, he sets the aids for a program that
takes wind into account. Etc. He loves them. Something to consider
when the time comes.
