Lisa,
Although I do not have a hearing problem myself, I have
followed this list for some
months and have been able to pass on helpful tips etc. to my
wife who has quite serious
hearing loss.
This thread is of considerable interest because here in the
UK we have been having
unusually hot and humid weather recently and my wife
believes that moisture may be
interfering with the working of her Oticon Spirit Ii aids.
A replacement battery is often
needed on a daily basis.
Could you tell us a little more about what you describe as
"Dry and Store". Is this a
piece of equipment likely to be available in the UK? Are
there different types made by
different companies?
Thanks in advance for any help, and apologies for jumping in
on this thread and
perhaps showing my ignorance - I happen to be totally blind
and am more familiar with
the visual impairment "scene".

I'm not Chris or Lisa, but you can learn about Dry &
Store at
http://www.dryandstore.co
m/
There are two models. I've used both and find either to be
effective. They
both have essentially the same features, but one advantage
of the "world"
model is that it can use either the proprietary desiccant
bars or one you
can dry out occasionally and reuse.
Advantages over passive drying systems (like a cup with
desiccant) are:
* It's active ... warm air is circulated around the aids.
* There's an ultraviolet light that sanitizes the aids
Most people I know who have a Dry&Store like it. Most
find that it does a
very good job of drying the aid including the tubing and
mold, and some
people who have had problems with ear infections report that
it helps
minimize or eliminate that problem too. I've never had
problems with ear
infections, but I like the drying abilities of the Dry &
Stores.
That said, it's unlikely that the humidity is causing
battery life to be as
short as one day. It's more likely that humidity might
cause problems with
the aid.
Keeping your aids dry can increase their lifetime by
preventing corrosion in
the insides.
The world model operates on a converter, and they do have
converters for
various foreign power systems.

| Dry and Store |

|
2005-07-30 18:03:34 |
I received a Dry and Store as part of my CI accessories.
This is the first
time I've ever used this device, but now that I have, I
really like it!
You can find out more about the Dry and Store by visiting:
http://www.dryandstore.com
I have the smaller Global unit which I've been told works
just as well as
the larger unit. The only difference between the two is that
the Global unit
uses dry brik desiccants which can be purchased separately
or in bulk.
Once you have the opportunity to use the Dry and Store, I
think you'll be
very pleased. I like mine so much that I decided to purchase
a second unit
as a spare and for use while traveling.
