Thread: Not encoding in real time -- real duration

Not encoding in real time -- real duration

Hi,
I have a customer (we are using the real producer 10 sdk),
that will
record an hour long lecture and the realproducer file (.rm
with video)
will actually come out 5-8 seconds longer in duration.

I have seen cases of dropped samples and shorter durations
and I tell my
customers to get a more powerful computer or use a dedicated
encoding
card, but I have never seen a duration grow.

Has anyone every seen this?

I think my advice will be the same for them and I'll send
them an osprey
card for testing, but wanted to see if this was a producer
issue, not a
driver/device issue.

Thanks for any words of wisdom....

Brian

I bet this is simply an issue of an audio card clock on the
encoding box
being "off". Producer measures time by the
audio clock/sample rate and thus
a fast clock might result in more samples than expected in
the time period
and the video ending up being longer. I'm actually
surprised there are not
synch issues in the resulting media. If the issue is an
audio clock, I would
expect to see the audio being out-of-synch, getting worse
over time.
