Could you please give more information of get the
size/duration of a video clip without playback it? Is there
such API in Helix?

The easiest way I know to get the duration of a clip without
playing
it back is to use dtdrplin. This is similar to what is done
for 
getting thumbnails. In the options, however, you pass
a name/value pair "ProcessHeadersOnly" equal to 1.
This
will cause dtdrplin to simply read the file and stream
headers
and then exit.
